Blood Sugar Reset

Our eight-week Blood Sugar Reset is a comprehensive approach to improving blood sugar management. Led by a Licensed Dietician Nutritionist and a Certified Exercise Physiologist, the program combines educational group classes, individual Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) and group exercise sessions all carefully developed to help bring blood sugar levels under control.

What is the Blood Sugar Reset Program?

Both high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) and low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can cause unpleasant - sometimes even dangerous - side effects in the short-term. They can also lead to significant health issues in the long term, such as diabetes, heart disease, and nerve damage. Eating well, exercising regularly, and maintaining a healthy weight can all help to keep blood sugar levels within a safe range. It's never too late or too early to adopt these healthy habits, whether you are currently managing blood sugar dysfunction like diabetes, or proactively taking steps to prevent it in the future.

At Monarch Wellness, we recognize that making lifestyle changes can be challenging and overwhelming. We want you to feel equipped with the knowledge and tools you need to make healthy choices that work for you. We aim to provide the support and encouragement you need to follow through on those choices. We also foster connection between our participants because we know that being part of a community can make all the difference.

All About Blood Sugar

Blood sugar is the body’s main source of energy.  Blood sugar levels naturally fluctuate throughout the day, and the body has mechanisms to keep levels reasonably stable. In a healthy individual, blood sugar and a hormone called insulin work in harmony:

  • The food we eat is broken down into blood sugar.

  • A rise in blood sugar causes the pancreas to release insulin.

  • The insulin allows glucose to enter the body’s cells, decreasing the level of sugar in the blood.

  • Lower blood sugar signals to the pancreas that no more insulin is needed.

However, disease, lifestyle and genetics can all contribute to a breakdown in this relationship whereby cells become less responsive to insulin - called Insulin Resistance. The pancreas starts to produce more insulin to compensate, which further increases the cells’ resistance to it. Without intervention, insulin resistance prevents the body from keeping blood sugar within normal limits. Elevated blood sugar levels can ultimately lead to prediabetes and type 2 diabetes.
