Nutrition for Complex Medical Issues

Nutritional counseling and education can have particular benefits for those with complex health issues, such as neurodegenerative, gastrointestinal, and autoimmune diseases; cancer; lymphedema; and cardiometabolic issues like diabetes. Medical nutrition therapy (MNT) can help reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer; optimize digestion; support bone density; and address food allergies and/or intolerances. Our nutritionist is adept at finding creative ways to improve diet when cooking is not an option, and supporting nutritional needs in those with limited food tolerance.

Maintaining a healthy weight and adhering to a healthy diet can help reduce risks for developing disease, improve disease management and reduce symptoms, slow down disease progression, and improve quality of life. For example: research has shown that cancer patients who maintain their weight and nutritional status experience fewer breaks in their therapy and treatment; whereas patients who experience undesirable and unintentional weight loss may have more treatment breaks, require more and longer hospitalizations, and experience more severe side effects from their treatment. Parenthetically, excess weight is an independent risk factor for developing 13 different types of cancer.

Along with weight management, our nutritionist can help with such issues as:

Inflammation

High cholesterol

High blood pressure

Blood Sugar Regulation

Fatigue

Meal Planning

Social Considerations

Appetite & Taste Changes

Biomechanical Challenges
